Alice and Dan meet and fall easily in love. Intimacy comes effortlessly, and they decide that she should move into his small London flat. They create a fun and energetic life together.
Alice, an artist, begins a project of documenting their relationship with a video camera. At first this offers her a feeling of connection to the outside world, but soon takes on a more sinister life and interferes with their interactions. Alice feels trapped but does not know why or how to fix it.
Cracks appear, unbeknownst to them. Self-destruction plays a role. Before they know it, Alice has cheated on Dan. Dan responds by cheating back. They find themselves in unfamiliar territory and do not know how to proceed. They love each other but can’t seem to get along well enough to stay together. Exhaustingly, they decide that she will move back to the States.
Back home, Alice has great success with work, but something is missing... is it Dan? They still feel a very deep connection and believe that they made a mistake in breaking up. They want to try again, feeling that they have learned from their mistakes. They make plans for Dan to fly to LA to see Alice.
A plus D is a universal story of relationships. Two people who are potentially perfect for each other, and indeed do fall in love, but unwittingly self-destruct and fall into their own insecurities. In equal measure, they create and destroy their own intimacy. As we are all evil and good, so are they to each other.
